The University of Missouri  EM Core is a resource center for scanning and transmission electron microscopy, providing investigators with consultation, training,
access to instrumentation, and extensive services.

The facility was established in 1995 by combining the electron microscopy resources of the College of Veterinary Medicine ; the School of Medicine ; and the College of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources .   In 2000 the Core was expanded by the incorporation of the Department of Geological Sciences ' Microbeam Analysis Facility.  The Electron Microscopy Core is hosted by the Department of Veterinary Pathobiology.

The “Nano Mems User Facility” is now open and running with users from academia and industry. Through this facility, users can be trained and operate the equipment themselves or with the help of a technical person. The fee for using equipment is $30/per when user operates the equipment and $75/hour for assisted use. For a complete list of equipment, please visit
http://www.engineering.missouri.edu/nano.

The facility is located in Engineering Building West and divided into several sections: a class 100 clean room with complete photolithographic equipment, a class 10000 clean room with various process tools (Plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition, sputter deposition, E-beam deposition etc.), and a second class 10000 clean room with equipment like a glove box, rapid thermal annealing system, wafer dicer, thermal oxidation system etc. Material characterization capability includes an X-ray diffraction system, microRaman spectroscopy, Atomic Force Microscopy, Spectroscopic ellipsometry, Probe station, UV-Vis spectroscopy, Dynamic light scattering system, Fluoremeter, TGA/DSC system, pore surface and porosity analyzer, and other instruments. A complete list is available in the website, which will be updated as the lab continues to expand and new equipment is acquired.

Requests to use this facility can be made through the website or by emailing to muengrnanomems@missouri.edu or hossainma@missouri.edu

There are also ongoing research projects in the area of nanoparticle synthesis and functionalization, nano sensors etc. Go to http://grg.missouri.edu for ongoing research projects.

Updated policies for the EM Core can be found here. These policies refer to conditions of instrument and microscope usage, confidentiality, cancellation policies, and other rules of Core use. We encourage all of our users to review them and to please let Core staff know about any questions concerning them.

We have a new sample submission form to be included with all samples brought to the EM Core. It can be downloaded here, printed out and faxed or brought to the Core with your samples. (We are working on a form which can be submitted online. Stay tuned.)
